FOLLOWER-SHIP!
Because without us, whom would they lead?

Is anyone else numb from attending yet another program on Leadership? Well, I am. Where is it said that everyone has to be a leader and should feel inadequate or insecure if they have no interest in leading or lack the skills or ambition necessary to do so? Every successful team consists of true leaders and role players who knowingly accept their place in the process and take great pride in adding their unique piece to the puzzle. This session covers factors necessary in forming and maintaining an outstanding team, dictating vs. leading, arrogance vs. confidence, creating a sense of urgency encouraging others to actively participate, engage and involve as a selfless team player, being respected vs. being liked, the tone of teamwork, selfless volunteerism, and rewarding vs. condemning.

People will leave this session proud to be a Certified Team Player!

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1) The participants will be able to identify the subtle similarities and differences between leadership and teamwork.
2) The participants will come to understand and accept what it means to become a selfless team player.
3) The participants will leave well prepared to ultimately lead a team of their own.

HOVER!
Because your words are more powerful than you know.

Once you hit send, and your message, text or email has been delivered and received there’s no turning back.
The words you sent have meaning, but perception vs reality are two different things. Thus, before you hit send, I encourage you to HOVER and think clearly through the ramifications your words will have upon the recipient(s). In this age of instant communication, social media, and breaking news, everyone seems to want to communicate with a sense of urgency and expediency. Well, be quick but don’t hurry because the words you send can be (and often will be) read over and over again. This session will explore the responsibility we have to use our words responsibly, and how to move and inspire people thru the written word. The words we use define the content of our character. The participants will leave this session with a clear understanding of the power of their words and how to use them with the best of intentions.

Learning Outcomes
1) the participants will come to understand the impact their words have on others.
2) the participants will learn to rely upon poise, tact and diplomacy when communicating via written form.
3) The participated will learn how to encourage others to do the same.

Making Relationships Matter

After the text messages, IM’s, email, pokes, winks, chats and videos have ended…a couple will ultimately have to meet face-to-face if they want things to progress further. Then, they must rely upon the interpersonal skills they have (or have not) developed and rely on the experience (or lack thereof) they have from previous relationships. Reporting “on-line” to be “in a relationship” is a far cry from actually being involved in one. Interacting in person with a potential love interest is becoming increasingly harder for people as much of their initial contact is electronic-based and buffered. 11-Time National Campus Speaker of the Year, David Coleman, in a humorous, yet challenging manner, will show you how to form, mend and healthy relationships. He will cover: Who controls relationships and why, why pick up lines fail, subtle signs we exhibit when romantically interested in someone, profound differences between men and women, The ABC’s of Initial Interest, the five stages of relationships, the characteristics of healthy relationships, taking a break, breaking up, long-distance relationships and much more. If you are easily offended or fearful of the truth, this show may not be for you.

An UnPlugged Session with The Dating Doctor!!!

A no holds barred program whereby the audience determines the topics that will be covered once they enter the room. No topic is tabu or off limits. Being offended is not an option. Along with David Coleman sharing his thoughts, ideas, strategies, emotions and wisdom formed from thousands of appearances and millions of individual interactions with people, the audience will act as consultants for one another. They will challenge and support one another during a continuous experience of give-and-take whereby we will tackle the toughest relationship issues of our time with courage, strength, grace, hope and class! There is no other program like it….anywhere!

Creative Dating: The Cure for the Common Relationship!

Experience the original program that started it all! Creative Dating is a fun and interactive look at our dating lives, why we make the choices we do and who we are as social beings. It covers topics such as: “Creative Low Budget Dating Ideas,” “Why long distance relationships fail,” “What cheesy pick-up lines really mean,” “Why women want the bad boys and why nice guys finish last,” “How men and women define romance,” and “What all men and women really want.”

David is available for limited dates but his talented and well-trained associates Judson Laipply and Stephen Gray are the primary presenters for this program and have received rave reviews nationwide.

Why Be Ordinary When You Can Be Remarkable!

Quite often, the primary difference between someone or something being “remarkable,” instead of “ordinary,” is performing a common task uncommonly well! It may be as simple as being a bit braver for five minutes longer than anyone else or by committing to a life whereby you never assume that what is present in your life is a right or a privilege. This highly inspirational program will chronicle common people who have overcome apathy or tremendous personal challenges to accomplish extraordinary things and will teach each of us how we can embody these same traits in our own lives and use them to make a profound and meaningful impact on the world and people around us. Each of us lives within various levels of a self-fulfilling prophecy, whereby we serve as our own worst enemies and allow negative personal thoughts to limit our potential. Together, we will overcome these barriers and leave them behind because a life lived in fear, is a life half-lived!

Energizing, Retaining and Transitioning Your Members!

This session will provide you with concrete strategies to energize, retain and transition your members that you can immediately employ upon returning to campus…or maybe even before.

Two Hours To A Team!

Ask any supervisor, advisor or organizational leader what their biggest concern is and they will talk about egos, personalities, reputations, petty jealousies, ancient history and apathy standing in the way of their organization successfully accomplishing their goals.

This program will erase these words and excuses from your organization’s vocabulary. By the conclusion of this program, the individual participants will be transformed into an inspired, unitedteam in which no one cares who gets the credit as long as the mission has been accomplished and all time lines met.

In addition, participants will experience engaging exercises that will challenge them to leave their comfort zones and make a major statement about the person they are and the person they long to become. People leave with changed attitudes and the staying power to give their best effort every time.

Mastering Multi-Tasking

This session will teach important principles about setting realistic goals, assessing daily choices and decisions, how we divide up our time and how we prioritize our life. It is “controlled chaos” whereby each person works individually (yet also as a team) to successfully accomplish several complex tasks in a relatively short period of time without a loss of quality.

Several work/challenge stations will be set up, each with a specific purpose, with a few unexpected “variables” thrown in to provide a realistic and life-like atmosphere.

Most importantly, the participants will learn that in order to reach their goals, they must make them a part of their every day routine and lifestyle. Participants will have no idea just how much they have learned until the end, when we process what has just occurred.

Laughter, success and failure will provide a common bond that will change lives, perceptions and habits, forever.

Making Students Matter (for faculty and staff)

This program, designed specifically for student affairs administrators and staff (or anyone who works closely with college students), will prepare those who regularly interact with students to deal with the highs and lows students encounter throughout their experiences. You have the opportunity to choose your attitude every day and you will come to understand the importance of that decision and the impact it has upon the students you serve. We will discuss the 5 Stages of Development EVERY college student experiences and what can be expected from them as they progress through each stage. Several of the social and personal differences between male and female college students will be revealed as well as the nature of interpersonal social relationships they engage in.

The top ten mistakes college students make will be revealed and each attendee will be taught how to gauge whether or not their students are involved in healthy relationships in and out of their area of responsibility. Through the use of a humorous yet challenging activity, we will find the “Strongest Link” in the room and the audience will receive 10 proven strategies to make students matter as well as how to develop pictures in young men and women’s hearts that will fill them with amazing alumni memories. The audience will come to understand that leadership is not something a position gives you, it is something a situation offers you!

Making Athletics Matter (for student athletes)

This program, designed specifically for student athletes, covers three distinct areas: Making Character Matter, Making Relationships Matter and Making Teammates Matter. We will discuss the ability and importance of choosing a positive attitude every day as well as living a life of integrity and character. Student athletes will learn what it means to be a “True and Loyal Teammate.”

Character is defined through a humorous yet eye-opening exercise called, “The Strongest Link,” (where we quickly ascertain who has the strongest character in the room and how it was developed).

Student athletes are in the public eye and succeed and fail in front of people on a regular basis. It makes their life more visible and exposes them to praise, ridicule and judgment. Student athletes can become TARGETS for others who may be in awe or jealous of the opportunities they have and how they can reduce their chance of being taken advantage of without negatively affecting their lifestyle.

The stages of relationships, the characteristics of healthy relationships, and the top ten mistakes student athletes make will give your students an honest look at relationships and how they can be more successful in their interactions on and off the field. We discuss how social relationships between athletes differ from those of non-athletes and clearly define the difference between dreams and goals.

The program ends with a life-changing video and slide show the leaves your athletes inspired to do great things for themselves and each other for the right reasons!

Making Student Athletes Matter (for coaches and staff)

Making Greek Life Matter

It doesn’t take courage to “Go Greek.” It takes courage to be a “Great Greek!” This program, designed specifically for the Greek Community, will implore Greeks in America to “stand up” and become the type of people they know they can and should be. It is time for the fluff and rhetoric to end and for integrity and action to begin.

These student leaders have the opportunity to choose their attitude every day and will come to understand the importance of that decision and the power that it wields. We will cover treating people with dignity and respect, understanding what “true” friendship, brotherhood and sisterhood really means, the stages of development every college student experiences, the 5 phases interpersonal relationships experience, the 5 characteristics of healthy relationships and how to develop pictures in students’ hearts that fill them with amazing alumni memories.

“I am in awe of how immediately personable you are and how great that makes everyone feel. Most people come in, do their programs and leave. You make a lasting impact because in the midst of great information and an ability to get people to think beyond themselves, it’s obvious that you truly value and care about the people you meet. That makes all the difference and has endeared you to so many of us here.”

Go A.P.E. For Leadership

Three simple factors determine how we think and act and determine our level of satisfaction and success every single day. These same factors separate winners from losers, as well as excusers from producers. These three factors are Attitude, Preparation and Effort. If you “choose” the right attitude, prepare yourself extensively and give the best effort you possibly can, you will succeed more often than not and even when you fail, you will maintain your grace, dignity and self-esteem. This session is about being a more courageous leader and person.

Program Goals:

  • Teach the participants that they choose their attitude every day.
  • Examine the difference between effective leaders and those who fail.
  • Provide a plan of action for being a motivated leader who inspires others.
  • Teach everyone to “Go A.P.E.!”
  • Learning the diversification of those around you (and yourself) to positively influence your leadership style.

Building a Chapter That Bonds

Building a Chapter that Bonds

If a Fraternity or Sorority truly comes together as individuals and learns to share one heartbeat, there is little to nothing that they cannot accomplish. The problem is that few chapters ever find that effortless cohesion and accept a total team concept. This program will help the members of your greek system do just that. In an interactive, engaging and no-nonsense style, David will confront and challenge the members of your Greek system regarding:

  • Posing and Cotton Candy Conversation

  • Factors that tear chapters apart
  • Characteristics that outstanding chapters share
  • Characteristics that outstanding greek leaders share
  • The characteristics found in healthy relationships
  • Character versus reputation
  • Living, learning and leading in remarkable ways
  • Making sure that every member matters

One Heartbeat: Orientation Staff Training

One Heartbeat! (Orientation Staff Training)

What separates an ordinary orientation program from one that changes lives? It is the attitude, preparation and effort of the Orientation Staff. They must exhibit compassion, experience, leadership, wisdom, humility, and be alert to those new students who are one tear away from “cashing in the college experience”. A group of “individuals” will not be successful. It takes a Team sharing One Heartbeat, One Pulse and One Mission to change lives and help students accept college life with open arms! The Art of College Parenting

The Art of College Parenting

Just as a paintbrush, palette and canvas are the tools an artist uses to perfect their craft, experience, intellect, patience, compassion and love are the provisions parents rely upon as they adapt to parenting a college student. Just as the college experience has a profound impact upon the lives of students (and usually a very positive one), it has an equally significant impact upon the lives of parents. This important Orientation program prepares parents for what lies ahead.

In those final moments just before dropping their son or daughter off on the campus doorstep (following Orientation), very little that parents say to their children will have a profound impact on how those students adapt to or progress through college. Why? Because by this point, parents have done all they can to lay the moral, ethical and spiritual foundation to help guide the decisions their sons and daughters will make while in college.

In this lighthearted yet highly educational program, parents’ fears are alleviated and their most basic and pressing questions are answered. The success of this program also involves the wisdom of VIP’s – Veteran Informed Parents – those who either currently have or have already had a son or daughter go through the college “experience.” Bottom line: It all comes down to how parents and students work together to make college the exceptional learning experience it is intended to be. This Parent Orientation program is a sure fire way to begin that process.

Personalized Leadership Retreats!

One of the best kept secrets in America just might be how skilled David Coleman is at facilitating and leading team-building retreats. His goal is to challenge every person at least one level above their current skill level and comfort zone, while building immediate and long-lasting rapport with each individual and between the participants.

David believes that retreats should encompass three primary areas: Relationship development, skill building and character formation. Each activity he facilitates holds a specific purpose and builds upon the previous exercise to provide an experience that changes attitudes, behaviors and beliefs while forming bonds between people and groups that previously did not exist.

Some exercises are more intense in nature while others offer a more light-hearted and humorous twist on leadership, character or relationships. David and his agent Brooke will ask you all the necessary questions to clearly understand your needs and the goals you hope to accomplish with your retreat, then depending on the number of days or hours you have invested, a retreat schedule and plan will be developed to maximize the time and opportunities available.

David has led dozens of retreats for groups from 10 to 100 and we know that you will see both immediate and long-lasting changes in the lives that he touches.

Making Your Customer Matter

Relationships win business and close deals. Relationships sustain companies. With every company trying to move at the speed of business today the quality of individual relationships often gets compromised. Companies are more concerned about profits, losses and the bottom line than the process it took to arrive there. Although this mindset may lead to short-term success, it will eventually lead to long-term failure.

This program will teach every participant how to make the relationships in their life matter. Be it at home, at work or with clients. It will teach you how to form, mend and sustain meaningful relationships that stand the test of time and get better over time. You will learn to be courageous, valuable, respectful, thankful, passionate, committed, spiritual, trustworthy and healthy in all relationships in your life and form bonds with employees and clients that have them looking forward to their next interaction with you. An accompanying book, video and CD are exciting options to consider when booking this program!

Building a Staff That Bonds

There are large organizations composed of talented people who sometimes get very little done. Conversely, there are smaller staffs, sometimes composed of individuals with marginal abilities who go on and accomplish great things. How and why is this possible? Building a Staff That Bonds will explore how to build an exceptional staff ‹one who believes in a team first mentality and who forms and sustains healthy and productive relationships internally as well as with other professionals, customers and within their own private lives. When members of a staff understand and own their role within that organization, extraordinary things can and often do happen.

Topics covered during this interactive program include:

  • Why does your staff exist?
  • What is their primary mission?
  • Who controls your organization and why?
  • Who is the strongest link in your organization and what led them to become such a high quality person?
  • What factors tear organizations apart and how can these factors be minimized or even capitalized on?
  • What characteristics do exceptional organizations share in common?
  • What characteristics do extraordinary employees share in common?
  • How can your staff excel in all areas of their lives in order to be more satisfied and efficient at work?
  • How can you motivate your employees to buy into change, new initiatives and a team concept?
  • How to give and receive constructive criticism and eliminate “cotton candy conversations.”
  • Dealing with conflict ‹as when the stakes get higher tension can become more intense.
  • Eradicating office gossip and innuendo.
  • Incorporating appropriate humor into the workplace.
  • To understand the difference between character and reputation.
  • To understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships.
  • To use diversity as a tool for success and understanding and appreciating individual differences.
  • Ways to recognize and reward employees.
  • Forming the type of staff that others would seek to join, thus making recruitment easier.
  • Understanding how your personal relationships affect your attitude, preparation and effort at work.

This program is highly interactive by nature and must be held in a room/location that is multi-functional as part of the time, people are stationary and in “theatre style,” and part of the time, they are up and involved and part of the learning process.

  • Examine the difference between effective leaders and those who fail.
  • Provide a plan of action for being a motivated leader who inspires others.
  • Teach everyone to ìGo A.P.E.!î

Living an Intentional Life!

We have a vision of our ideal life. The perfect job. Top salary. A city we adore in a dream house we call home. The partner we love and the family who grows in our image. Our legacy develops as we make a difference. But how many of us pursue our dreams with the INTENTIONALITY necessary to make it happen? If “we just keep plugging away, or it is meant to be, it will happen.” Wrong. It is time to stop leaving our dreams up to chance. David Coleman will help you set goals, organize details, and implement strategies to prioritize your intentions and harness your talent to reach milestones you may have felt unattainable. You’ll learn to purposefully meet others, to coordinate experiences and to keep your momentum moving in the direction of your dreams. Prepare to C.A.R.E. about your future by intentionally making it happen.

Mastering Multi-Tasking: The Difference Between Those Who Produce and Those Who Make an Excuse!

Positive People Produce. Your Customer Service and Bottom Line Will Show It!

“Positive People Produce!
And Your Customer Service and Bottom Line Will Show It!”

The average employee in this country spends around two-thirds of their time away from work focused on their own personal lives, social lives, interests, family, health and well-being. The sense of satisfaction they receive from these endeavors directly impacts their level of productivity and the amount of time they spend focused on their job. Why? Because happy and satisfied people tend to produce at levels that often exceed expectations, while unhappy and dissatisfied people tend to make excuses, mistakes and produce at levels well below their potential. Time spent on line or in counseling sessions (legal and or personal) doctor’s offices, seeking solace or taking “personal” time all lead to diminished productivity. Like it or not, if one of your employees is having less than positive results in their personal and social life, they may come to work and be distracted, adopt a “workaholic” mentality or become habitually absent. You have two choices, bury your head in the sand and say, “that is not my concern,” or make a positive move to ensure that your employees have the best chance possible of having personal lives that are healthy, meaningful and satisfying. This will, in turn, increase your bottom line and customer service satisfaction levels.
This program covers such topics as:

• The ABC’s of Initial Interest
• Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships
• The 5 Characteristics Found in Healthy Relationships
• The Stages of Relating After Divorce
• Some Basic Human Differences Between Men and Women
• Who Controls a Relationship and Why?
• Why People Have a Tendency to Repeat Poor Relationships and Choices
• The Three Types of Love Found in Healthy Relationships
• The Six Basic Premises of Being A Leader That Other Leaders Admire
• The Six Stages of Loss and how to cope with and survive life’s challenges
• What it Means to be a True Friend to Others
• Anger, Tempers and Fighting…How to disagree with grace and dignity
• Plus, any and all topics of specific importance to you and your employees (which can be found out anonymously)
This program is fast-paced, interactive and designed to teach relationship principles that can immediately be engaged to increase your employees self-confidence, self-worth and sense of personal satisfaction.

Making Marriage Matter

Ever wonder why one couple seems to be so happily married while another, in a seemingly similar situation, appears to struggle? Perhaps the first couple is “posing” to portray something they are not, or they may have learned to make their marriage matter.

Any married couple understands that a quality marriage takes two individuals committed to making it work. They realize that life is about ups and downs, but that the highs are never as monumental as they seem and the lows are never as dreadful as they appear.

This program will cover: The 5 Stage of Married Life, handing conflict with class and character, the 5 Characteristics of a Healthy Marriage, the 3 types of love found in successful marriages, keeping love and passion alive as children grow and jobs become more demanding, the role spirituality plays in a marriage that stands the test of time and how to . For those who may be divorced, we will also cover the 5 Stages of dating after divorce, how to trust again and teaching your children about healthy relationships.

Building An Organization that Bonds

There are huge organizations composed of talented members, yet they get very little done. There are smaller organizations with marginal members who do incredible things. Why is this so? And, how is it possible? This program will explore how to build GREAT organizations that form and sustain healthy and productive relationships internally as well as with the body of the organization and staff.

Topics covered include:

  • Why do certain committees exist?
  • Who controls individual committees and why?
  • What tears committees apart and how can these factors be minimized?
  • What characteristics do GREAT committees share in common?
  • What characteristics do healthy, productive committees exhibit?

Program goals:

  • To learn the characteristics of healthy, effective relationships
  • To learn the basic principles that effective committees follow
  • To understand the importance of selection and training
  • To understand the difference between character and reputation
  • To use diversity as a tool for success, not failure

This is the best dating advice I ever found on the internet. I wished I had read it much earlier; I would be reaping its fruits now. It is informative, reassuring, direct, accurate and very lively. I’m going to recommend it to many of my friends who need a “cure for their common relationships.”

A little over two hours with Dave changed my life. I now have a completely new outlook regarding myself and relationships after listening to him and speaking with him afterwards. Dave is an incredible speaker and person. He keeps the audience interested, and makes you wish the clock would stop or go in reverse so that the session wouldn’t end!

I attended David’s program at Siena College. It was an eye opening experience! I never knew or considered half of the information he shared. I’ve been in a relationship for a year now, and just recently things have started to go poorly. After reading more on his website, and taking notes from his program, I’ve decided to change some things, not only with the way I think, but how I treat the relationship and others in my life. Thanks so much Dave, you’ve shown and taught me a lot!

I first heard you on the radio, and now look forward to hearing you every Wednesday morning. I make sure my friends remember to listen too!
I have some questions to ask about my new relationship. I would much rather ask you than a shrink because you are so down to earth, direct and sincere. I think your show is great!

I heard David Coleman speak at St. Louis University, and it was by far the best presentation of any kind I have ever heard and I have been to many. I am in the midst of a long distance relationship right now, but after hearing what David had to say, I realize that we are heading in the right direction. I read the columns and FAQs on his website, and they have helped me make sense of what I’m going through. He is a Godsend.

David Coleman is a genius! I am involved in a long distance relationship, and recently read his column. It has helped me so much! Everything he wrote is amazingly accurate and so true it was eerie. I read the column every day, to keep in mind his tips on keeping a long distance relationship and what factors cause them to fail. I want to thank him for his candor and advice.

I just wanted to thank you again for EVERYTHING! All of us had an amazing time talking with you and of course your show was a BIG hit! All day long people have been stopping me and saying great things about last night’s program. We were honored to have you speak on campus and stay afterwards to hang out with us. You are the first speaker I can ever remember here at the University of Michigan where people stayed and didn’t walk out. That never happens here! Congrats!

Your book “Date Smart” -I just have NO words to describe the relief I feel now that I actually took the time to memorize the title and run to the bookstore and buy it. I saw a woman reading it at the beach on Sunday (about a year after my horrific break up) and she never put it down all day. So I thought, if this lady is that intrigued then it must be “all that!” So I got it the next day and let’s put it this way, that book is MY BIBLE! I am in a serious relationship now, but always go back and remind myself how much more I know now about men and myself because I read it. I would love to have an encyclopedia of just your books and materials.

Thank you very much for your motivational advice. Sometimes I make all the wrong decisions, despite what I know, and just need someone to tell me that it is okay to be imperfect. An hour with you did more for my self-confidence than any number of fraternity boys that may eventually hit on me. You are a great person, and great at what you do.

Every time I visit your website, I find more truths about my relationship. I love my boyfriend of 3 years very much, but some of the details you share and comments you make me think that maybe I should be more aware of what is happening in this relationship! Thank you

“The Dating Doctor” was the star of the semester at Bradley University! More than six weeks later, students were still talking about his presentation. The buzz was and is, “Were you at the Dating Doctor?” David made it “cool” to be at an on-campus, informative, educational and hilarious program. No doubt his e-mail and website is burning up from the BU student terminals from those writing with interest, curiosity and hope. He just might be the perfect all Greek system educational speaker!

Dave’s enthusiasm, knowledge and direct approach with students instantly make him someone students want to listen to. He is current in his information, powerful in his presentation and fully engages the audience with his highly interactive program. Students have such a great time that they do not realize how much they are learning – about dating, about themselves, about each other, and about life!
