Program Descriptions
Making Student Athletes Matter
This program, designed for coaches, administrators and staff, or anyone who works with student athletes, covers the 5 stages of development every college athlete goes through and what can be expected from student athletes as they progress through each stage. This will prepare those who regularly interact with athletes to deal with the highs and lows students encounter throughout their experiences.
Several of the social and personal differences between male and female college athletes will be revealed as well as the nature of the interpersonal social relationships they engage in. The top ten mistakes student athletes make will be shared and each attendee will be taught how to gauge whether or not their athletes are engaged in healthy relationships on and off the field.
Finally, the audience will receive 10 proven strategies to make their student athletes matter and ways for them to protect themselves from student athletes with whom they may be perceived as too social.
This program, designed specifically for student athletes, covers three distinct areas: Making Character Matter, Making Passion Matter, and Making Teammates Matter.
We discuss the ability and importance of choosing a positive attitude every day as well as living a life of integrity and character. They will learn what it means to be a “True Friend” to others.
Character is defined through a humorous, yet eye-opening exercise called, “The Strongest Link,” (where we quickly ascertain who has the strongest character in the room and how it was developed).
Student athletes are in the public eye and succeed and fail in front of others on a regular basis. It makes their life more visible. Thus, we discuss the fact that they can become targets for others who may be in awe or jealous of the opportunities they have and how they can reduce their chance of being taken advantage of without negatively affecting their lifestyle.
The stages of relationships, the characteristics of healthy relationships, and the top ten mistakes student athletes make will give your students an honest look at relationships and how they can be more successful in their interactions on and off the field. We discuss how social relationships between athletes differ from those of non-athletes and clearly define the difference between dreams and goals.
The program ends with a life-changing video and slide show that leaves your athletes inspired to do great things for themselves and each other for the right reason!

WHAT MEN ARE SAYING ABOUT BECOMING A LEGENDARY MAN…
He took two groups of men who had no intention of paying attention, nonetheless caring, and then amazed me as I watched him transform them into a group of men who didn’t want to leave the room. The same guys who got on me for making them attend, thanked me for bringing him to campus. I now believe that all-men programming can and will work because these guys proved it can!
~~ Drew LeFors, University of Missouri
Becoming a Legendary Man helped me come away with a better understanding of myself.
~~ Hope College student
Wow! What a session. The insight into what makes men legendary was tremendous. Our organization wants to bring this session in for our Fraternity retreat because it will help us build and understand true brotherhood!
~~ Adam Hudson, IFC President
This session helped me put into words all that I already knew inside.

Matt draws upon his Paralympic experiences from Atlanta in 1996 through Athens in 2004 with the United States Sit Volleyball Team. He speaks about working with all the personalities on the team to be able to achieve the common goal. And although the team goal is a traditional medal, designing your own ‘Gold Medal’ lifestyle, can be equally rewarding. Competitive wheelchair sports are demonstrated in this program.
So how did we get into this risk management mess and what can you do about it? Ron is a noted expert on Risk Management and has spoken at over 100 campuses and several national fraternity and sorority conventions, and has impacted over 10,000 students. He has appeared on the NBC Nightly News, NPR’s Talk of the Nation, Court TV and has been quoted in Newsweek on risk management, alcohol and substance abuse and hazing. You decide how much risk you have; this session will give you the tools to make an informed decision.
Last Call: Alcohol Awareness Program
This exciting new program addresses the number one issue that campuses across the nation face…ALCOHOL! According to a USA Today, 30% of all college freshmen deaths were contributed to alcohol or drug overdose. Last Call is the ground-breaking new program that looks at the reality of alcohol and how it effects your campus as well as surrounding community. Through the use of eye opening visuals, inspiring documentary footage, and stories of personal tragedy and triumphs over alcohol, the presenters will bend the alcohol education curve into a whole new standard.
This audience driven program will engage both students and speakers in an open and honest dialog on the realities of alcohol and its effects. Speaking veterans, Brent Scarpo and former student affairs practitioner, Patti Ramey will share with the audience their experiences of having to make that “last call” to a parent, friend or loved one when alcohol serves its final round on a student’s life. This program is the first step in making sure those “last calls” never happen. Participants will leave the program with real life skills on dealing with alcohol, alcohol abuse and the culture that it creates within our classrooms, campuses and communities. In addition, students will be given the necessary tools of responsible drinking behaviors and how to engage their peers who abuse that responsibility.
During the program, audience members will discover the answers to the following questions:
- What are the signs of alcohol abuse in myself and friends?
- What are the signs of alcohol poisoning and what do I when it happens?
- What is binge drinking?
- What is responsible drinking and how to I encourage myself and others in this behavior?
- How do I deal with the challenge of peer pressure?

Every college or university who cares about their students’ social lives should bring this program to campus!
~~ Margret O’Gorman, Indiana University (now at Baldwin-Wallace)
Before attending Creative Dating here at UTD in the fall of 1997, I was clueless about women. At that time, I was just beginning a promising relationship. Over the course of a year, I used many of the tips and excellent advice you expertly shared. A year later, my girlfriend and I love each other more than I imagined possible. Your advice didn’t teach me how to win her heart, it taught me how to earn her love.
~~ C.S., The University of Texas at Dallas
After the text messages, IM’s, email, pokes, winks, chats and videos have ended…a couple will ultimately have to meet face-to-face if they want things to progress further. Then, they must rely upon the interpersonal skills they have (or have not) developed and rely on the experience (or lack thereof) they have from previous relationships. Reporting “on-line” to be “in a relationship” is a far cry from actually being involved in one. Interacting in person with a potential love interest is becoming increasingly harder for people as much of their initial contact is electronic-based and buffered. 11-Time National Campus Speaker of the Year, David Coleman, in a humorous, yet challenging manner, will show you how to form, mend and healthy relationships. He will cover: Who controls relationships and why, why pick up lines fail, subtle signs we exhibit when romantically interested in someone, profound differences between men and women, The ABC’s of Initial Interest, the five stages of relationships, the characteristics of healthy relationships, taking a break, breaking up, long-distance relationships and much more. If you are easily offended or fearful of the truth, this show may not be for you.
As human beings, we spend approximately 284,000 waking hours in relationships during our lifetime. We shape and are shaped by the associations we keep with others. To experience a high quality of life and to achieve a comfortable level of personal satisfaction, these relationships must be healthy, safe, prosperous and forever growing. This program will cover several important, timely and difficult topics in a way that connects with the audience and encourages them to immediately incorporate changes into their lives as well as to encourage their family and friends to do the same. Topics covered include:
- Who is to blame when a sexual assault occurs?
- The definition and characteristics of a healthy relationship and how to tell if you are in one
- How to identify if you are dating a (potential or current) loser
- Why women have a tendency to date “bad boys”
- Ten steps to ensure relationship success
- The cycle of violence and abuse
- How to interact with and communicate with someone who has been traumatized
- Ultimatums and what they really mean
- How control develops in a relationship and how to spot signs that it is present
- Words vs. actions
- Counter Dependence (used by manipulators) and Projection Error (how not to let someone fool you)
- How to spot and liar and get them to choke on their words
- How to define and identify true love and romance
- How to tell if someone is TRULY interested in you
- The 15 basic principles of relationships
- Why people make excuses for their partner and how they can stop
- Rohypnol and GHB
- …and much more
This program is HIGHLY interactive by nature and is not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for a fluffy program, pass this one by. It culminates with the sharing of a true story, which CLEARLY identifies what a relationship is and should be! This program is perfect for RA’s, Student Leaders, Orientation sTaff, Professional Staff, anyone who cares about creating a healthy and safe social environment for everyone involved.
Brent’s program, For Women Only, is highly sought after and is the long awaited program that looks at the challenges and issues women face in a male dominated society as presented by a man. A man you say? Yes, Brent Scarpo has a unique perspective on the issues and challenges that women face in society and empowers women to take a unique introspection of their lives. Brent has great admiration for women and their role in society for he was raised by a single, divorced mother during a time when it was not fashionable to do so.
During this unique and amazing program, Brent shares his experiences growing up and how his mother faced the daily challenges of being an uneducated, single and divorced woman raising three children on her own. Brent shares with audiences the unique wisdom his mother modeled for her children and how she overcame her daily challenges and succeeded one day at a time.
Through the one of a kind lessons passed on by his mother, Brent empowers his audience on the following concepts:
1. What are the top ten lessons women should know about men?
2. What are the top ten lessons women should know about the work place?
3. What are the top ten lessons women should know about marriage?
4. What are the top ten lessons women should pass on to their children?
5. What are the top ten lessons women should know about themselves?
Of course, men will not be turned away, but this is a program that empowers women and the unique challenges they face in a male dominated society. This is an excellent program for corporations, keynote, as well as colleges and sororities.

Once again, my students and staff raved about you and your program. You cover so many important and timely topics with such fun mixed in, that students don’t realize just how much they are learning. Your program has become an annual event. I couldn’t imagine our opening Comet Camp without you!
~~ Jeanette Cantwell, The University of Texas at Dallas
USAToday (Sept. 11, 2007) says, “Colleges and universities are learning to work with a new breed of parent.” According to one study, campuses hosting Parent Orientation programs have increased from 7% in 2003 to 74% today. Just as the college experience has a profound impact upon the lives of students (and usually a very positive one), it has an equally significant impact upon the lives of parents.
“The Art of College Parenting” helps to prepare new college Moms and Dads for the journey that lies ahead. In this highly educational yet lighthearted Parent Orientation program, parents’ fears are alleviated and their most basic and pressing questions are addressed. With skillful facilitation, the success of this program also involves the wisdom of VIP’s - Veteran Informed Parents - those parents in the room who either currently have or have already had a son or daughter go through the college “experience.”
What They’re Saying…
“This program kept our parents and students laughing, interacting, and engaged! It’s a great, energetic and fun experience. We invite it back every year!” - Lone Star College
“The Art of College Parenting” is always the top-rated component of our parent orientation. I cannot imagine our program without it.” - Ohio Northern University
In those final moments just before dropping off their son or daughter on the campus doorstep, very little that parents say to their children will have a profound impact on how those students adapt to or progress through college. Why? Because by this point, parents have done all they can to lay the moral, ethical and spiritual foundation to help guide the decisions their sons and daughters will make while in college.
The Bottom Line? It all comes down to how parents, students and the institution work together to make college the exceptional learning experience it is intended to be. “The Art of College Parenting” is a sure fire way to successfully begin that process.
Diversity According to South Park & Family Guy
Many times T.V. imitates life and then life begins to imitate television. Programs operating on the fringes of societal acceptance often have a more developed, logical, and inclusive view of our society than the entities which have a strangle hold on morality in our culture. As a result, television shows, such as The Family Guy and South Park, are more likely to teach and reinforce the morals and values of young adults than the real home that they are being raised in.
Programs Goals:
- Break down stereotypical attitudes and behavior towards differences
- Attune viewers to a higher level of understanding of how the media portrays Diversity
- Reinforce the theme of education through absurdity
Diversity is present in the program through the different portrayals of stereotypes through video clips from well known television programs.
Aren’t We All Just a Little Bit Prejudiced?
The first year experience isn’t just a time to get acclimated to a new place or form new friendships. It’s a time for students to decide what values they will retain from their upbringing and what elements of character they will establish on their own. Personal values come from experiences and beliefs. We all make judgments about things based on our past interactions and experiences and that in which we believe. Prejudging a situation or person is natural. We do it intrinsically and often immediately. Where we sometimes fail is in how we interact with others based solely upon those thoughts and feelings. Matt Glowacki’s aren’t We All Just A Little Bit Prejudiced? is a candid look at how we gauge our interactions with others. His presentation addresses how to make the most of those interactions and shares ways to overcome the ignorance associated with stereotypical behavior. Matt will teach students how to feel comfortable enough with each other to interact naturally and how to make the most of each and every one of these interactions.
Placing value in learning about various kinds of people and challenging students to make friends with people outside of their comfort zone will round out their college experience and is the key to appreciating Diversity. The lessons in life that teach us the most are those that happen when we share our true selves while simultaneously striving to learn as much as we can about others regardless of who they are or what path led them to us.
Often, students come from small towns or communities and missed the opportunity to live and interact with people from different cultural backgrounds or different ethnic subcultures than themselves. So their preconceived notions are based on what other people have told them or incorrect media images, not on actual personal experience.
This presentation brings home the idea that prejudice can used for good when it involves seeing potential in others. Enjoy the views and the insights Matt brings to his audience through his heartfelt, humorous yet candid style. His goal is for people to grow from their interactions with others regardless of their individual differences, and they will.
Sadly the events of September 11th and The War on Terror have bred a new generation of veterans who are facing the challenges associated with living a life with a newly acquired disability. According to reports from the U.S. Government as many as 1/3 of soldiers who have recently returned to the U.S. have sought care from a Veterans’ Administration healthcare system for disabilities which they have acquired while serving our nation.
Matt Glowacki’s personal experiences and knowledge of life with a disability are invaluable as he explains the stages of grief and how they are reflected in living life within the parameters of a newly acquired disability. His Paralympic expertise allows him to introduce the role competitive sports can play in the recovery of a person’s identity. He will share examples from a lifetime of overcoming other people’s low expectations for his success to illustrate the importance of striving to overcome obstacles and have meaningful relationships in life and love.
This program is ideal for all members of the college community who are seeking to be educated about new issues that will be effecting us for years to come as many of these returning wounded warriors will be returning to school as well. Your audience will leave with an understanding of how a disability affects both the person with the challenge as well as that person’s friends, family and community. Matt will strive to break down barriers that may exist between the able-bodied and those who have a disability, allowing audience members to become comfortable befriending someone with a personal challenge, so that everyone can truly be all that they can be.
Are you tired of the same old Bed Races, Bat Spin, Pass the Egg or Three Legged Race games students play for Welcome Week, Homecoming Week, Greek Competition or Spring Fling? Why just talk about diversity when you can experience it first hand? Matt Glowacki’s Diversability Challenge brings the spirit of competition and diversity to your campus in one program. It is a sport simulation that brings a sampling of the Paralympic Games together with the real-life experience of having a disability.
Matt will open the games with actual video footage taken from the Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia, in which he participated as a member of the United States Sitting-Volleyball Team. He will greet the competitors with a high-energy motivational address and then explain the rules of the competition.
The program’s logistics change based on venue and number of participants, but it is designed around three Paralympic sports: basketball, sitting-volleyball, and murderball. Matt can also serve as referee or participant in the games. A round-robin tournament then ensues where only the strong survive!
The goal of this exciting program is to provide new insights into Diversity and to bring people together in a meaningful way where they can build new relationships, strengthen existing ones and have a great time the process. Sport brings people together everyday, so why not add a new dimension to the game of life?
Journey to a Hate-Free Millennium
Journey to a Hate Free Millennium is the multiple award-winning documentary that seeks solutions to ending HATE and the terrible hate crimes that have become frequent events in our daily lives. The stirring and powerful film centers around true stories taken direct from the national headlines including: The dreadful student shootings at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado; the torturous dragging death of James Byrd, Jr., an African-American man in Texas; and the brutal beating death of Matthew Shephard, a gay college student in Wyoming. The inspiring documentary addresses the subject of HATE by searching out the origins of how it is “taught and learned,” the scope of its danger beginning with childhood taunting to murder. Viewers are invited to take a stand against HATE and create their own vision of a world free of HATE, where senseless acts of violence are a thing of the past. The program utilizes the groundbreaking documentary in an interactive, multi-media presentation that impacts and changes students’ view of HATE in their world. Though the program is uniquely designed for each audience, the basic structure is as follows:
BASIC PROGRAM STRUCTURE
- A 35-minute version of the film is shown.
- Interactive exercises are done in which the audience shares their definition of HATE and examples of HATE in their lives and community.

So You Want To Be Funny is a highly interactive seminar that teaches and provides the skills of humor for anyone that wants to learn to be funny. Whether you are an aspiring actor/comedian, a speaker that understands the impact of humor in virtually any setting or if you just want to be the life of the party, So You Want To Be Funny will set you on the road to success.
The program is offered by celebrated and award winning comedian Tommy Blaze who has been performing and teaching stand-up comedy for over two decades.
Tommy walks the students of comedy through his “Five Facets of Funny” which can turn anyone into a skilled joke teller. The program is so fast paced and funny in its own right, most people don’t realize they are being taught anything at all. After receiving the necessary tools and “graduating” from the class, students are then video taped showing off their newfound abilities. These “mini-performances” are posted on a web site allowing the students to share their celebrity hood with friends and family.
So You Want To Be Funny may sound like a joke, but this program can enhance anyone’s personality and offer benefits which can be realized in both the personal and professional world.
Survive Institute 101: Easy Self-Defense to Save Your Life!
The CHOOSE COURAGE Seminar is a life-altering experience that emphasizes the need to change one’s belief system from assumed vulnerability to natural empowerment. College students need to stop assuming they are “less than” their violent assailant(s). Campus violence, terrorism, car jacking, armed robbery, domestic violence, abduction, rape and murder are realities of our times. College students deserve a believable, explicit bottom line that immediately strengthens their backbone and significantly increases their odds of preventing… and surviving un-preventable and un-predictable violence.
If it’s been said many times before, it will NOT be said again! Worn-out “crime prevention tips and safety rules” are not re-reviewed in the CHOOSE COURAGE Seminar. College students need a new and updated alternative to their past self-defense experiences which likely emphasized complicated karate-type moves, boring crime statistics, high-pressure mace sales, scary crime tales and unrealistic safety rhetoric (i.e., never walk alone, don’t talk to strangers, just be aware, just use your common-sense, etc.)
College students need the truth: they ultimately have the RIGHT to walk alone to classes and their workplace (no one has their exact schedule); they have the right to meet, talk and trust new people. What they desperately need are realistic tools to SWITCH-ON courage to STOP that one-in-a-million encounter with an untrustworthy person (including a “date” acting out criminal behavior.) Students deserve new ideas to empower the only person who they can ultimately depend on in a local, national or international crisis… themselves.
The CHOOSE COURAGE Seminar is NOT a demonstration or buying opportunity for traditional crime prevention products (mace, sound alarms, etc.) Dependency on those products for personal safety is strongly discouraged.

PART II: REALISTIC CRIME PREVENTION
PART III: SURVIVING VIOLENCE & WEAPON ATTACKS

After 10 years of Will & Grace one would hope the world would be more accepting of LGBT students. The reality is that LGBT students exist on our campuses, in our residence halls, in our student groups and in our fraternities and sororities, yet many of their fellow students have ideas that don’t match reality. What they need is LGBT 101! This program explores the reality surrounding LGBT students using stories, insight, humor and facts to educate students and to increase their comfort with those that are different.

Through the use of this powerful documentary, educational guide and accompanying workshop, students will come to understand how the power of one individual can make a difference in the world.
The audience will be guided through servant leadership philosophies and tactics by the experiences of the presenter. This program will use the power of film and the essence of human spirit to teach the lessons that textbooks are unable to translate. Servant leadership is a hands-on experience for students whether they are leaders, followers, resume-builders or life-time philanthropist.
The speaker will enlighten and teach the audience in using service to empower themselves, their peers and their communities in any phase of their lives. Utilizing these skills will enable both students, faculty, and staff to evaluate service opportunities as they relate to their campus, its organizations and their personal lives.
The most powerful moment of the program will be the legacy that Mama D has left the world and how that legacy will transform students to create their own. Audiences will view the award-winning documentary, Mama D and how she fed thousands of homeless in downtown Los Angeles with only her disability check and few volunteers. In addition, students will be able to answer the following questions after the program.
- What is my personal service philosophy?
- What is servant leadership?
- What are the ten points of being a servant leader?
- How can service enrich my organization, campus, personal life and profession?
- What are some examples of service projects that I can develop while in college?
- What is a senior gift project?
- What is the legacy I want to leave behind?
It doesn’t take courage to “Go Greek.” It takes courage to be a “Great Greek!” This program, designed specifically for the Greek Community, will implore Greeks in America to “stand up” and become the type of people they know they can and should be. It is time for the fluff and rhetoric to end and for integrity and action to begin.
These student leaders have the opportunity to choose their attitude every day and will come to understand the importance of that decision and the power that it wields. We will cover treating people with dignity and respect, understanding what “true” friendship, brotherhood and sisterhood really means, the stages of development every college student experiences, the 5 phases interpersonal relationships experience, the 5 characteristics of healthy relationships and how to develop pictures in students’ hearts that fill them with amazing alumni memories.
The audience will be confronted with the 10 Most Common Mistakes Greeks Make, the difference between healthy and unhealthy interactions with others and what control and conflict signifies. Through the use of a humorous yet challenging activity, we will find the “Strongest Link” in the room, discuss the difference between character and reputation and encourage Greeks to understand that they are easy targets for praise, animosity, blame and jealousy from others on campus and in the community.
Finally, we will discuss some of the major differences between fraternity men and women and develop concrete strategies to make Greek life matter on campus.
Three simple factors determine how we think and act and determine our level of satisfaction every day. These same factors separate winners from losers, as well as excusers from producers. These three factors are Preparation, Attitude and Effort.
By getting to the “heart” of what matters and by returning to core values vitally important in life, love and leadership, this session will challenge every participant to strive to live every day with the proper attitude, focus, determination, courage and effort required to live a day with no regrets.
This will happen through a combination of interactive exercises, multi-media immersion, and introspective examination meant to be an “in-your-face-wake-up-call” for all involved. The audience will focus on preparing themselves to meet the challenges and conditions of their lives and to put forth the type of effort that even they were unsure they were capable of.
At time during this session, the participants will “go wild,” while at other times it will be about what lies quietly deep within. We are a body, a mind and a spirit and when they all work in harmony, there is nothing we cannot accomplish. If you’re not the lead sled dog, the view is always the same.
But We’ve Always Done it this Way
The Message:
These are challenging times, and Lenny gets to the heart of the matter - helping individuals and organizations move forward.
Lenny’s keynotes and “think-shops” emphasize that the fundamental concepts of creative thinking and leadership can, in fact, be learned and implemented immediately in campus organizations, in a career search, in the workplace, in the community, and personally.
Creative thinkers move organizations forward! But what exactly is creativity? What kills it? What are some tools we can use to enhance our creative thinking? And, perhaps most importantly, how can we apply this information?
Lenny challenges students with new ideas and the kind of relevant, “real world” information to which they’re not exposed in the classroom - information, which can positively impact their lives.
The Presentation Style:
Today’s students want to learn, but they also want to be entertained - so, why not give them both? Lenny does! His message is serious, but Lenny also believes that learning can be and should be FUN!
Lenny combines a powerful message that students need with a dynamic approach that students love. Forget the podium! Lenny’s active learning environment dynamically utilizes cartoons, video, music, theatrical excerpts, light-hearted lecture plus the wit and wisdom of people throughout history to emphasize fundamental concepts. Think-shops include group and individual creative exercises.
How, where and when to use this program:
Lenny invites and challenges you to examine the possibilities!
FALL - It’s a powerful jump-start to kick-off the new school year
WINTER - It’s a great pick-me-up to beat the mid-year blues and blahs
SPRING - It’s timely and effective right after New Officer transitions
As a keynote/Lecture, Lenny’s message hits home with all types of audiences - from wide-eyed freshmen to anxious seniors, traditional and non-traditional students, graduate students and yes, even faculty and staff.
From a Student Activities perspective, many Campus Program Boards schedule Lenny as part of their Speaker Series of guest lecturers.
From an Orientation perspective, Lenny has presented keynotes for Convocation and other First-Year Experience programs.
As the capstone of the college experience, Lenny has even donned cap and gown to deliver a Commencement address!
Does your campus have a Core Curriculum or Core Competency program, which all students must complete prior to graduation? The unique nature and scope of Lenny’s presentation invites co-sponsorship opportunities and departmental tie-ins, including but not limited to:
Art, Communications, English, Fine Arts, Journalism, and Theatre.
And, with a module on, “The Creative Career Search,” there is an opportunity to seek the support of the Business School, Entrepreneurship Center, Career Planning and Placement Office, as well as any campus and community professional business organization.
As a Leadership Program, Lenny facilitates an eye-opening think-shop for the movers and shakers on your campus: Student Organizations, Student Government, Fraternities & Sororities, Peer Educators, Emerge & Excel Programs, and Residence Hall Training.
Whether you cal it a workshop, conference, symposium or retreat, Lenny’s in-depth, hands-on learning experience will have participants listening, laughing and learning!
The same holds true when the Administration’s Human Resources Department utilizes “Creativity: The Essence of Success” as an inservice program for Faculty and Staff.
The Format:
Lenny’s program is flexible to meet the specific needs of your audience and your agenda - from a half-hour to a half-day. If you’re planning a Leadership Program for the first time, Lenny will gladly share his expertise with you.
So, whether you’re looking for a campus lecturer, a workshop facilitator, or a banquet keynote speaker, you’ll definitely get the most bang for your buck!
You’re Got to be Rare to be Recognized
A Capstone Program for Exiting Seniors
What makes you creatively different and/or better than everyone else with basically the same abilities and the same degree from the same school?
Lenny Dave makes it clear, “You’ve got to be rare to be recognized… and rewarded!”
Lenny applies the fundamental concepts of creativity to the factors most affecting the transition from student life on campus to the pursuit of professional life “on the other side!”
“There is always more than one right answer!” That’s Lenny’s driving, creative philosophy. And, to help you discover those new possibilities for a variety of applications, Lenny dynamically demonstrates how you can “dissect it, inspect it and reconnect it!”
And, Lenny speaks from experience.

With 25 years of research and data collected from over 3 million leaders the authors Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner built a leadership model on the belief that leadership is measurable, learnable, and teachable set of behaviors and that “Leadership is Everyone’s Business”. After surveying thousands of individuals on their personal best leadership experience Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner found there were similar patterns of behavior that could be broken down into 5 leadership practices. These practices are, Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Enable Others to Act, Challenge the Process, and Encourage the Heart.
We have taken Kouzes and Posner’s model and molded it into an exciting leadership development program called The Leadership Challenge Institute. The Leadership Challenge Institute is a leadership program focusing on developing exemplary student leaders. The “Challenge” is geared toward students who have already acquired the basic premises of leadership skills/practices and are ready to move to the next level. This is a nationally recognized program that is being tailored to meet the needs of college students across the United States in developing leadership skills and practices. This comprehensive program engages students in activities, dialogue, and readings that will enhance student leadership practices as well as integrate student leaders into the campus community.
- “The Leadership Challenge has provided me with the tools and guidance to become a better leader. I now know what steps I need to take to become the leader I need and want to be to succeed.”-Jordan Isley, MBA Student
- “After completing the Leadership Challenge I feel closer to my peers and as an individual I feel stronger as an administrative, motivational force.”-Johnny Silve, Pre Med Student
- “I would recommend the Leadership Challenge to others because it is a great experience to learn about yourself and others. It’s a board room eye opener.”-Brittany Rucker, Accounting Student

Every day we are bombarded by subtle yet obvious messages that we are flawed and that imperfection is unacceptable. We are encouraged to be more, do more, say more and are reminded that our daily routine should appear effortless and infringe upon no one. This has caused many of us to “cut corners” and each time we do, this compromise mentality chips away at our character. This session will move people to action and leave them with a clear understanding of what they truly value and why, where their strengths and weaknesses lie and how to measure their sincere desire to be a leader and person who exceeds their potential, sets trends, and changes lives. Each person will be challenged individually, while the audience is simultaneously encouraged to unite, support one another, drop facades and grow as an unit. Participants will determine how much they value: diversity, shared beliefs, a common vision, communication, character, growth, learning, courage, friendship and choice as they share aspects of their lives that they may have previously kept hidden. Participants will leave proud of the person they have become and the journey it took them to get there! We will find the Strongest Link in the room. Will it be you?

Participants who before were concerned about “who got the credit,” will shift their focus to ensure that the mission of the group is accomplished and principles are not compromised. Each exercise is processed afterward, insuring that immediate learning takes place. You’ve never experienced a session quite like this!

Success in the midst of conflict
Into every life a little DRAMA will fall. Defined as a state, situation, or series of events involving interesting or intense conflict of forces, Drama creeps into every relationship with silence and stealth, until you are caught in the web. Some individuals love to watch DRAMA, some like to create Drama, Some just fall into drama. However, in every area of life, personal or professional, drama takes it’s toll. During the presentation participants will understand the “Dramatic Equation”, the nature of conflict , The common causes of Conflict and key principles to working through difficult situations. Grab your program and let’s review the DRAMA.
Cooking in the Kitchen: Programming with a Small Budget
Is your organization or program board working with a limited budget? A small budget shouldn’t prevent you from sponsoring successful events and programs. This workshop offers fun, creative and low cost alternatives.
What is your leadership style? How do you choose what is best for the group that you lead? Do ethics and values play a part in the choices you make to lead your organization? We will explore your style, we will talk about your morals, values and ethics and we will focus on turning your organization around or headed in the right direction. It is fun and inviting.
Humor, Laughter, Life & Cancer
THE MESSAGE:
‘Wellness’ covers a wide range of emotional and physical situations involving individuals and organizations alike. Our program offers a healthy, non-threatening and much-needed prescription of therapeutic humor and laughter. The feedback is powerful and poignant.
The emerging field of therapeutic humor gains increased respect and recognition with each new research study. Humor, laughter and a positive attitude have been shown to cause behavioral changes known to reduce stress hormone levels and boost the body’s immune system response. This, in turn, helps to fight chronic illnesses such as cancer and heart disease. Lenny serves on the Board of AATH - Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor.
To address the immediate concerns and personal challenges of wellness audiences, we focus on concepts such as embracing life, laughing and learning, confronting fear, taking purposeful risk, and avoiding negativity.
To address the strategic needs and organizational challenges of wellness audiences, we focus on concepts such as personal growth and development, building community, reducing stress in the workplace, and moving individuals and organizations forward.
HOW TO USE THE PROGRAM:
We’re flexible - so bend us! For example:
We customized a presentation entitled, ‘Humor, Laughter, Life and Cancer!’ for The Wellness Community. It was an emotionally-charged event with lots of laughs, lots of tears, lots of hugs, lots of people and a very positive release of energy. The intensity of that moment will resonate for a long, long time.
Other organizations have invited us to speak at their conferences and conventions for the simple fact that our program sounded like something fun, fresh and different. Countless times, we’ve heard, ‘Our people need to laugh and lighten up!’
THE FORMAT:
Forget the medical textbook terminology! Forget the statistics, charts and graphs! And most of all - Forget the podium!
Our dynamic, interactive learning environment utilizes cartoons, movie excerpts, music, plus the wit and wisdom of people throughout history to emphasize fundamental concepts. Most people want to learn, but they also want to be entertained! So, why not give them both? The essence of our program is very serious, but we subscribe to the theory that learning can be and should be fun!
Cancer isn’t funny - but life is - and people certainly are! One of our talented cartoonists is a woman in the midst of her second encounter with cancer in eight years. She considers her cartooning to be her most valuable ‘therapy,’ her way of dealing with the frustration, the pain, and yes, the humor of the experience. Her brilliant work conveys an insightful, first-hand perspective which translates across the board to other challenging situations faced by audience members.
There are huge boards and committees composed of talented members, yet they get very little done. There are smaller boards, with marginal members who do incredible things. Why is this so and how is it possible? This program will explore how to build GREAT boards who form and sustain healthy and productive relationships internally as well as with the student body, clubs and organizations, student government, faculty and staff and the community at large.
Topics covered include:
- Why do certain boards and committees exist?
- Who controls individual boards and why?
- What tears boards apart and how can these factors be minimized?
- What characteristics do GREAT boards share in common?
- What characteristics do healthy, productive boards exhibit?
Program goals:
- To learn the characteristics of healthy, effective relationships
- To learn the basic principles that effective boards follow
- To understand the importance of selection and training
- To understand the difference between character and reputation
- To use diversity as a tool for success, not failure
What are people saying about this program?
“I am in awe of how immediately personable you are and how great that makes everyone feel. Most people come in, do their programs and leave. You make a lasting impact because in the midst of great information and an ability to get people to think beyond themselves, it’s obvious that you truly value and care about the people you meet. That makes all the difference and has endeared you to so many of us here.”

Why be Ordinary When You Can be Remarkable?
Quite often, the primary difference between someone or something being “remarkable,” instead of “ordinary,” is performing a common task uncommonly well! It may be as simple as being a bit braver for five minutes longer than anyone else or by committing to a life whereby you never assume that what is present in your life is a right or a privilege. This highly inspirational program will chronicle common people who have overcome apathy or tremendous personal challenges to accomplish extraordinary things and will teach each of us how we can embody these same traits in our own lives and use them to make a profound and meaningful impact on the world and people around us. Each of us lives within various levels of a self-fulfilling prophecy, whereby we serve as our own worst enemies and allow negative personal thoughts to limit our potential. Together, we will overcome these barriers and leave them behind because a life lived in fear, is a life half-lived!
Relationships win business and close deals. Relationships sustain companies. With every company trying to move at the speed of business today the quality of individual relationships often gets compromised. Companies are more concerned about profits, losses and the bottom line than the process it took to arrive there. Although this mindset may lead to short-term success, it will eventually lead to long-term failure. This program will teach every participant how to make the relationships in their life matter. Be it at home, at work or with clients. It will teach you how to form, mend and sustain meaningful relationships that stand the test of time and get better over time. You will learn to be courageous, valuable, respectful, thankful, passionate, committed, spiritual, trustworthy and healthy in all relationships in your life and form bonds with employees and clients that have them looking forward to their next interaction with you. An accompanying book, video and CD are exciting options to consider when booking this program!
There are large organizations composed of talented people who sometimes get very little done. Conversely, there are smaller staffs, sometimes composed of individuals with marginal abilities who go on and accomplish great things. How and why is this possible? Building a Staff That Bonds will explore how to build an exceptional staff ‹one who believes in a team first mentality and who forms and sustains healthy and productive relationships internally as well as with other professionals, customers and within their own private lives. When members of a staff understand and own their role within that organization, extraordinary things can and often do happen.
Happy People Produce- Unhappy People Make an Excuse
The average employee in this country spends at least two-thirds of their time away from work and focused on their own personal lives, family, hobbies, interests, health and well-being. The sense of satisfaction they receive from these endeavors directly impacts their level of productivity at work and the amount of quality time they spend focused on their job. Why? Because happy people tend to produce at levels that often exceed even their own expectations, while unhappy and dissatisfied people tend to make excuses and produce at levels well below their potential. In addition, time spent in lawyer’s offices, doctor’s offices, complaining, seeking solace or taking sick or “personal” time all lead to diminished productivity. Like it or not, if one of your employees is having less than positive results in their own personal and social life, they may come to work and be distracted or become a “workaholic” and immerse themselves into their job to escape the unhappiness they feel. You have two choices, bury your head in the sand and say, “that is not my concern,” or make a positive move to ensure that your employees have the best chance possible to have personal lives that are healthy, meaningful and satisfying.

What makes one team highly successful while another one fails? What makes one organization appear uniform and effortless, while another struggles and seems out of sorts? Plain and simple, it is the preparation, focus and attitude of those on the team, on the staff or in the organization. When a group shares One Heartbeat, they accept that no one is more or less important than anyone else and that everyone is working selflessly to provide the best overall experience and outcome for all involved. They do this not because it will make them look good, but because it is the right thing to do. Conflict is replaced by cooperation. Doubt is replaced by certainty. Praise gives way to humility. This session will foster a sense or ownership and belonging among the participants through a series of exercises that will challenge and enlighten. Participants will enter as strangers, but just might leave as friends. Everyone will exit with a strategy to employ to change the climate on their campus by transforming their organization into one where goals are achieved and expectations surpassed while no one cares who gets the credit. Participants will create memories, interact with others, establish a feeling of comfort, belonging and stability, reduce fear and apprehension, build confidence, develop courage and acclimate to one another very rapidly. The “Stop the Hate” Poster Contest is a campaign to educate college students about hate crimes and bias-based acts. The intent is to provide a way for students to learn about, respond to, and take a proactive approach in preventing these crimes.”
This contest is built in as part of the “Journey to a Hate Free Millennium” program and the WINNERS of the contest will be announce at the program by the speaker.
We will provide the rules, organizational plan as well as CELEBRITY JUDGES, who will judge your school’s entries via then internet. Past judges include Olivia Newton John, Transformers writer, Tim DeSanto, Scott Wolfe and many more… We will also help you secure prizes for the winners through corporate sponsors.
Brent’s BRAND NEW PROGRAM, Why Do You Hate Me? explores the issues of HATE on a much deeper level. In this program, Brent takes his collective experiences and shares with his audience not only the issues of hate and diversity but also self-hate and how it affects our self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. We answer the question, What is it that we love so little about ourselves that we feel a need to hate someone else or ourselves?
This interactive as well as audience driven program is highly motivational in nature and explores the various behaviors seen on campuses where students are sabotaging their educational career. We look at abusive behaviors such as binge drinking, drug usage, gambling, perfectionism, anorexia, as well as many more.
As we explore those behaviors we use to sabotage our personal success, Brent identifies the key components of why we choose these behaviors as well as the necessary solutions to help manage these behaviors and allow students to become the vibrant successful and creative people they were meant to become in this world.
The audience is guided in the exploration of several key questions, including:
1. What are some of the behaviors we see on campuses right now that sabotage our educational careers?
2. What keeps us from being the creative and prosperous beings that we are meant to be?
3. What steps can we take to better our self-worth and manage those behaviors that promote self-hate.
Audiences will leave the program transformed, enlightened, and ready to take their next step in making a difference in the world while making a difference in themselves.
Bias, stereotype, prejudice and discrimination are no joke. But, recognizing, understanding and appreciating ‘differences’ are so much more than merely racial issues. Differences in race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability/disability and age make us all unique. But, what happens when these fine lines are intentionally crossed?
A powerful video ‘mock-umentary’ opens the door for spirited discussion. With Lenny’s skillful facilitation, audience members share personal experiences to shed additional light on the subject. This popular and timely program has twice been honored with the “Best Ed. Session” award at the NACA West Regional Conference. Find out why. Share this important learning experience with your campus - and not just in February!
“Laugh goes on!” Lenny’s program offers a healthy, non-threatening and much-needed prescription of therapeutic humor and laughter while also delivering a serious message. The emerging field of therapeutic humor gains increased recognition and respect with each new research study. Humor, laughter and a positive attitude have been shown to cause behavioral changes known to reduce stress hormone levels and boost the body’s immune system response. This, in turn, helps to fight the effects of chronic illnesses such as cancer and heart disease.
Lenny’s fun, motivational presentation emphasizes the importance of humor in the healing process. Lenny is President of AATH - The Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor. The mission of this international organization (founded in 1987) is… “To serve as a community of professionals who study, practice and promote healthy humor and laughter.”
Speaking from first-hand experience, Lenny attests, “If you’re going to have a heart attack, you might as well find some humor in it - and I made sure that I did!” Lenny believes that people going through the ‘healing’ process need a break from the barrage of what he calls ‘symptom seminars and mold spore speakers.’ He explains, “A lot of people are ‘hurting,’ both literally and figuratively. They’re coping with a wide variety of life challenges such as a serious illness or a recent loss. Every so often, people just need to relax, have a few good laughs and forget about things for a while… or at least look at them from a different, lighter perspective.”
What They’re Saying…
“Your message to me was strong - I am not alone.”
“Lenny moves people through a range of human emotions. He gives them the perspective that truly living is experiencing everything and then choosing one’s own response. Lenny’s special gift is in delivering this message in such an enjoyable, gentle and lighthearted way.”
“Lenny is warm and sensitive and it shines through in his work. He created a wonderful feeling in what is often a very uneasy environment. This was a thoroughly enjoyable and beneficial experience!”
“It is my husband who has cancer, but Lenny’s program was therapeutic for me too.”
“Lenny was able to foster community, enhance understanding, and promote giggling. There was laughter, a welcomed sense of playfulness, and a palpable energy of camaraderie. I hope Lenny continues to reach out to people who so desperately need to hear this uplifting message.”
“Lenny, your wisdom is priceless. You spoke directly to my current issues - fear of the unknown, the importance of my support team, the value of looking at my situation from a different angle. Thank you so, so much!”
“Lenny’s responsiveness to the crowd and his sensitivity to the trials of the cancer experience made this program a tremendous success!”
“I actually enjoyed interacting with the group! The activities were fun and I met new people. The final video you showed was so true, beautiful and powerful. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”
“Lenny helped me realize that I can let down my guard and be myself. Thank you for saying that fear is normal. What’s important now is how I deal with it.”
“Lenny reinforced the need for ‘team’ participation and the benefits of a support community. His program reaffirmed that humor and laughter are important in fighting this disease. Thank you for the lift!”

Carolyn Scott has found it quite difficult to find special diet-friendly restaurants across the U.S. Realizing she could find and/or manipulate any menu to create a meal that satisfied her, she created The Healthy Voyager Brand to show students that your dietary restrictions shouldn’t ruin your campus eating habits. Having studied holistic nutrition and dabbled in the culinary arts, she knew she could put together a resource to help students with similar needs. Carolyn kept a log of every place she visited, filmed her adventures and the show was born! Now a full lifestyle brand, The Healthy Voyager is the authority on all things healthy and green! You can check out her blog, web series, recipes, radio show & more at healthyvoyager.com.
Organization 101: The top questions every student organization should ask itself.

As programmers and student leaders you are asked to make decisions that affect a large number of people. The guys ask student leaders to take a look at racism and other factors that influence their daily lives and interactions. Designed as a follow-up to the Living your life in a fishbowl session and inspired by the 2008 Presidential election, The guys will take student’s through an intriguing and thought provoking journey.

From Hometown to College Town: Making the big transition to college a little easier.
Some people graduate high school with a class of 3000 and others a class of 30. The first year of college is a BIG deal and Colleges & Universities do all they can to help every student succeed. A program designed for your organization’s executive board and chairpersons. It starts by giving you the secret to successful leadership (hint: it should show in everything you do!!) You’ll also learn the latest breakthrough in leadership development and how it can transform your organization from mundane to explosive. Learning Through Leadership will not only show your leaders how to maximize their potential with the latest leadership theory, but also how to have FUN while doing it.
This session is designed for all organizational members who may be feeling, or noticing in others, the apathy that can accompany student activities. Has the membership in your organization dropped and you can’t figure out why? Have you ever felt like you don’t have a job in your organization? You are not alone. You don’t have to hold an e-board position to be a leader. Many students do not feel that they play an intricate part in organizations because they are not a committee chair. Actually, general members often play the most vital roles in any student organization. But I’m Just a General Member explores the responsibilities of general members and what their real job is in an organization.
If you can get dressed in the morning you can become the leader you always wanted to be. Joining seven student organizations will fill your calendar but it won’t make you a leader. Leadership is about making a positive difference and should not be confused with holding a title. Remember, “Your title doesn’t make you important, the difference you make does!” Step one to being a leader is knowing what a real leader is. Take yourself off autopilot and you can get there when you learn to Lead With Your Pants On.

Maybe it’s time to mix things up and learn how your organization can see results when you start to P.O.W.E.R. up with Performance Enhancing Programs! Sometimes all it takes is a little adjustment, so don’t let another program go to waste. The best part is, you can start today!

Etiquette: Making A Positive Impression To Gain A Competitive Advantage
The importance of cultural awareness in the global marketplace include first impressions, mixing and mingling, business introductions, body language, grammar faux pas, image tips, job interview skills, and table manners. Participants will be given current information to sharpen their skills to gain the competitive advantage in almost any interactive situation.
Program description:
This program presents an overview of acceptable etiquette in the workplace and today’s society. It is a funfilled-far from stuffy-seminar. It covers cutting-edge etiquette, offering an opportunity to sharpen professional skills and gain the competitive edge.
The educational approach is to make participants aware of attention to detail, stressing that it can indeed make a difference. The major points are interpersonal skills, dress, major grammar gaffes, and social skills. Having lived with college students for over a decade, “Mom Nonnie” speaks from experience. It has been her observation that most college students today have never been taught formal etiquette, therefore they are unaware of these guidelines.
The program will benefit its intended audience by offering information which will boost self-confidence through techniques guaranteed to improve personal image. With these skills in hand, participants will be better prepared for job interviews, university functions, alumni banquets, parent introductions, social functions and romantic dates.
It is an interactive program when the students are taught to correctly introduce themselves to at least three other people, followed by conversation using proper eye contact and body language.
Handouts will be given to each participant for dining skills, job interview etiquette, and other quick tips for gaining the competitive edge.
Ambassadors for Etiquette: A “Hands-On” Dining Etiquette Seminar And Dinner
This program entails and formal meal with professional servers. Nonnie will walk you through the entire dinner reviewing the universal language of dining. Other beneficial skills will be reviewed, such as shaking hands while holding a beverage and eating hors d’oeuvres.
Recommendations: Limit audience to 250. Allow two and one-half hours for the program.
Handouts for formal place settings and guest seatings will be given to each participant.
This program goes beyond gender communication to focus on a broad spectrum of relationships. It is a program for both men and women - men because they truly want to understand “what women really want” and women because they want to make sure that the presenter gets it right!
Program description:
The educational approach and major points are designed to have participants understand not only other people and the opposite sex, but also to understand themselves. It is a basic relationship class, but Nonnie zeros in precisely on two things that (most) women REALLY want and skills to fill their personal needs. She will outline the positive elements of a balanced relationship, along with the elements which are destructive.
Participants will leave with an understanding of the value of relationships at both personal and business levels, and the importance of fulfilling others’ needs. This includes the value of volunteerism, balancing personal needs, and the need for self-fulfillment as a basis for understanding human behavior. It’s an entertaining program that has participants laughing and learning at the same time.
Handouts include diagrams outlining the elements of a relationship, including explicit information about why (most) people act the way they do in life.
A Special Presentation for College Level Fraternity/Sorority Groups: Mom Nonnie Tells All
After twelve years as a fraternity Housemother and a college consultant/facilitator, Nonnie has learned quite a few valuable lessons about Greek life! This fun, motivating program encompasses all topics related to fraternities and sororities in today’s college society. From Greek image and responsibility, to etiquette and dining skills, to sex and dating, “Mom Nonnie” talks straight.
Program description:
This program includes facts, stories, and humor. The major points are to teach lessons and simultaneously touch hearts. The objective is to inspire fraternity and sorority members to use their Greek involvement as a stepping stone to successful careers, relationships, and roles in today’s demanding world.
This program helps define direction in the auspicious opportunity called Greek membership. What’s it all about anyway? What is the objective in Greek life? Is it just a party or is there more to it? Why am I here and what have I done? Is it too late to get out of this commitment?
Handouts outline organizational teamwork and temperament charts for better understanding of personality traits.
No interaction.. Just: Mom Nonnie tells all. Something to listen to and think about. Food for thought, so-to-speak.

Our legacy develops as we make a difference. But how many of us pursue our dreams with the INTENTIONALITY necessary to make it happen? If “we just keep plugging away, or it is meant to be, it will happen.” Wrong. It is time to stop leaving our dreams up to chance. Note: (This program is wild and students love it. It can also be connected with any other program Ryan does)
-Have you ever spent hours studying, but you were so tired you did not learn much?
-Have you ever spent a long time in the gym but did not get a good workout?
-Have you spent a night out with your partner but you ended up fighting and there was no connection?
Your energy level when you do anything is more important than how much time you spend doing it. Ryan will teach your students how they can feel great all the time and never feel burned out again.
Many students spend hours working at the computer late at night, trying to finish a paper, but they keep getting distracted, and as time goes on, they find it harder and harder to focus. In this program, Ryan shows why cramming and studying without breaks are poor ways to do well in school. The 50-50-30 principle will allow a student to get more work done faster then they ever thought was possible and feel great while doing it.
This simple yet profound system has helped students improve their grades, get in better shape, and save more time for doing the things they love.
A show designed to introduce students to college and give them life skills to help them make friends, do well in school, and find their passion. Ryan will use his personally crafted “Speed Connect” game to show students how easy it can be to meet people and find something in common.

Why Not Me? (Come Get Dirty With Me!)
Have you ever been told you can’t do something because of your size, your look, your ability or your intelligence? Have you ever felt worthless, useless or sorry for yourself? Well, I have. My heart used to ache with disbelief in myself. I began to believe what others said about me, but I had a dream of being a professional softball player and that attitude was never going to get me there, so one day I told my mother, “Why not me?” Who’s to say what my fate should be, but me? I realized that that’s all about the belief I hold in myself and the effort I put forth toward reaching my dream. But this program is not about me, it’s about you, so the real question is, “Why not you?” For you to decide your fate, you have to be willing to get dirty because you may have to bleed to succeed.
Situation Normal, All F*** Up: Greeks & Grades
Situation Normal: All Fouled Up! Greek Life’s commitment to scholarship is definitely a SNAFU! It’s time for Greek communities to realize that emphasis on academic achievement is not only congruent with our founding values; it’s also an incredible route to positive image building! One of the best ways to fight the negative stereotypes that hold us back is to respond with a strong, visible and real commitment to improved academic performance. If our chapters and communities are truly excellent, it’s time to change the myth that Greeks and grades don’t mix.
If I Knew Then What I Know Now . . .

These are the Pillars of Excellence that Mark emphasizes in this values-based program. Each pillar is discussed and accompanied with stories of success and failure. He gives powerful strategies to combat negative stereotypes and win the respect and admiration of those who frequently criticize the fraternity and sorority community.

Almost all college students are provided an orientation experience to acclimate them to college life. This experience assists them in at least getting started in the right direction.
The process of developing leadership skills however, is usually left to the process of “self development”. Imagine what it would be like for one to be able to take a course on this very topic. The syllabus might read something like this:
The Principles of Leadership
• Utilizing one’s potential in the interaction process at all times
• Perfect public speaking skills
• Learn how to read other people more quickly
• Interpret both the verbal word as well as the non-verbal behavior
• Initiate leadership skills in a diplomatic style
• Become a leader who is respected, not feared or resented
• Lead by example, control your emotions and channel the energy necessary to complete every task
The power of the subconscious mind is “unleashed” and assists those attending how to utilize 100% of what they are capable of.
Each of these programs can be done as a “stand alone” event or following a hypnosis performance.

You Are A Networker– You Just Don’t Know It Yet
Lauren Berger turned her passion into a full-time business in 2008. Her story is one of passion, taking initiative, never taking no for an answer and most importantly NETWORKING!. In this presentation, she inspires students to take advantage of every situation – you never know who will make the difference. In Lauren’s case she met a big Hollywood producer while answer phones in an office. She networked with him, talked about her business idea and he funded her company in one day! Whether her audience is going to work for a big company or starting their own business Lauren teaches them how to: live their business, network 24/7, build their personal brand (online & in day to day life) and find motivation by constantly doing, seeing, and experiencing. She unlocks the students imagination and implores them to: “Network Like An Entrepreneur”.
Does This Life Make Me Look Fat?
How many college age women obsess about being thin enough and pretty enough? How many college age guys worry about taking off their shirt in public without embarrassment? The truth is almost EVERY student has these concerns.
For ten years Jenny suffered from obesity, then anorexia and bulimia. After years of speaking to college students, the one thing Jenny knows for sure is even if students never develop full blown eating disorders, too much external focus can ruin their ability to succeed.
Throughout college Jenny’s obsession over physical appearance controlled how she spent her time. Trying to look amazing and get constant validation meant less and less time to study. Her grades dropped. She lost focus on graduate school and career pursuits. She made irresponsible dating choices. Ultimately, she almost gave up her future simply because she lost sight of what really mattered. Her powerful message will help your students avoid a similar fate.
Jenny’s message will support campus program efforts to help students be their best selves. In fact, students that hear Jenny speak are better equipped to maintain a core self-confidence, ensuring a more focused, productive and happy college experience.
How to Avoid Getting Fired From College
Class catalogs, schedules, adding classes, dropping classes, syllabi, prerequisites, choosing a major, credits, general requirements, major requirements, electives, full-time class requirements, senior project requirements, internships, GRE, LSAT, MCAT…..why didn’t they teach us more about this in high school?
How do you know which major to pick, classes to take and when? When you finally get your semester scheduled, how do you stay on top of every quiz, test, paper, and reading assignment without falling behind and procrastinating?
In high school, Jenny was nearly a straight “A” student, but by her own admission was completely overwhelmed by the new rules of college. It took her several semesters to figure out how to gain control of her college career and form a plan of action. Her program will help you jump-start your college career by having a solid plan in place.
The truth is, college is a JOB, and we need to be trained to do the job well. Jenny helps students understand the in’s and out’s of academic life and how to plan their college career. She provides actual tools to stay on task, on schedule and still have time for an exciting and satisfying social life. This program is a must for those who don’t want college to be a bust.
How to be Skinny in a World That Says You’re Fat (for women only)
College women make themselves crazy trying to fit a physical ideal that isn’t possible. They go to exercising extremes, spending hours on a treadmill and then engage in disordered eating habits, like starving all day so they can consume high calorie alcoholic drinks at night.
The question Jenny gets asked most by college coeds is, “Now that you are well, how do you stay thin?” Her concern is there is so much focus on being skinny, that women give little thought to the damage they are doing to their bodies.
Jenny shares her personal story of obesity, anorexia and bulimia and the long-term effects it has had on her health; dental issues, rheumatoid arthritis, and constant chronic pain. She helps young women understand that until they decide to put an end to the mental torment of trying to be a size 0, it will continue.
By focusing on health and not a media driven image of beauty, Jenny shifts the end goal from being skinny to being healthy and educates women about how to care for their bodies by developing effective work-out routines and eating habits appropriate for college life. By developing a healthy body image, meal plan, and work-out routine, students are better equipped to take care of their physical selves, make better social and dating choices, and focus on academic and career pursuits.
The truth is that the emotion of attraction is something you can build without looks or wealth. Adam’s program enlightens students on the power of building their own inner attraction before trying to attract others. This program reviews the best techniques and strategies to finding the best girlfriend or boyfriend in college. The reality is that attraction can be a learned skill, just like riding a bike or playing an instrument!
Be the Life of a Party without a Drop of Alcohol!
Social Freedom is the ability to say, feel and act like your true self to build a more confident you, essentially the opposite of social anxiety. In college, however, so many students abuse alcohol to have temporary confidence in social surroundings. This is not only dangerous but it also creates a dependency for students to have fun. Adam connects with the audience on a very personal level to talk about the realities of habitual boozing.
Social anxiety is at an absolute peak for students during orientation. They are meeting dozens of new people each day, but Adam’s workshop is the surefire way for students to feel comfortable and confident enough to approach new people all day without fear of rejection. His social freedom program is tailored for college students to use techniques and strategies to finding the right friends and relationships for them during their first few months at school.
Transfer students make up almost 20% of 4-year colleges enrollments. Unlike freshman, these students do not have a large group of people who are all new to the school, they need to try and penetrate already established cliques. This is an absolutely daunting task for many and typically results in a large amount of rejection with little choice of friends. Adam’s program will re-frame the transfer student’s perception of their situation and give them enormous confidence to meet new people.
Have you ever admired someone who seems to be the naturally selected leader of the group? They
gracefully ascend to leader status, uninhibited by social rejection or judgment. The Fearless Leadership! program is here to debunk the myth of natural selection when it comes to great leaders – and to teach students how they, too, have the power to rise to great leadership heights. As America’s leading Social Freedom expert, Adam explains why students must develop a “Unique Concise Identity,” learn to network effectively, and conquer any fear of public speaking in order to truly become a fearless leader.
Audience Action Points:
- Teach the difference between an ordinary leader and a fearless leader
- Help students learn how to turn rejection into positive action
- Adam shares why handling criticism well is an essential part of successful leadership
- Students define their “Unique Concise Identity” (UCI) as a leader
- Learn how to project their UCIs when networking with others
- Teach students how to “warm up” their brains before public speaking or networking
- Students begin the journey toward becoming fearless, socially courageous leaders
Be the Life of Any Party… ALCOHOL FREE!
Why do most people immediately turn to alcohol as a “social lubricant” at parties? Because alcohol is
considered the acceptable, sure-fire way to become socially outgoing, accepted and accountability-free. Adam’s Be the Life of Any Party program teaches students how to avoid the “pregame party necessity,” build up their social value, and hold effective conversations – without being drunk. Audiences learn directly from one of America’s top dating coaches how to be the most popular person at any party…sober!
Audience Action Points:
- Teaching the “Alcohol-Free Social Lubricant Strategy”
- Share the top three reasons most students use alcohol as a social crutch
- Learn about the unavoidable physical and mental reactions to having even one drink
- Learn how to attract high quality friends and lovers – without being drunk
- Adam shares the best responses to the dreaded question: “Why aren’t you drinking?”
This program draws upon key concepts from Adam’s book, Being Alone Sucks! Adam’s unique program
on dating, socializing and attraction provides students with the tools and confidence they need to fill their social calendars and enjoy the rewards of social living. He demonstrates highly effective methods of how to approach, attract, and date the most compatible and attractive person possible. His lessons are bolstered by the foundational idea that students must foster self-love before finding it elsewhere – or, as Adam tells his audiences, “Be attracted to yourself to live a life full of love.”
Audience Action Points:
- Proves that dating is a teachable and learned skill
- Illustrates how to appropriately approach and meet new people in any social setting
- Arming students with conversation starters that ignite interest
- Help students understand the key dating differences between men and women
- Teach students the concept of the “Social Value Theory”
- Understanding the “Three Second Judge and Jury Rule” of first impressions
Adam admits that he grew up “socially average,” struggling to connect well with others. Based on his
own life experiences and extensive research, he has created a program designed to reach and transform those who struggle with similar social setbacks. He defines his signature concept of Social Freedom as the confidence to be your true self in any social situation without the fear of rejection or criticism. To that end, Adam’s Ultimate Social Freedom program will empower students to strengthen body language, trigger mental preparedness, and solidify personal belief systems to allow them the freedom to be completely comfortable and confident when meeting new people. He inspires students to challenge their social comfort zones in order to live the best college lifestyle possible – for them.
Audience Action Points:
- Teach students how to “trigger” their peak social mental/emotional state
- Move students from socially inept to socially average to socially free
- Educate the audience on the “Caveman Concept” of social fear
- Learn the “Three Step Social Freedom Process”
- Demonstrate the concept of “Exposure Therapy” for conquering social fears
- Practice the “Act as if…” body language technique exercise
- Reinforce each participants personal belief systems
- Students are taught how to handle rejection
Everyone has leadership skills, talents, and abilities, but everyone does not put them to their best use. Creating a vision for you or your organization, considering your campus legacy, using affirmations to get want you want, and more will be shared in this fun and interesting session that has been presented more than 150 times in the past five years all across the United States. This program is for anyone looking to grow in their student leadership roles, take charge of their life and the results they achieve, as well as people who never plan to take on a formal leadership position.
This is an interactive presentation that engages the audience in creating immediate success tools. Students will work individually and in small groups to discuss how they can overcome barriers, fears, and roadblocks to the things they want. It was developed after Dave saw so many of his energetic, excited, super students fail to take on leadership opportunities. When asked about this, the response was many times things like “What if I’m no good?”, “I have no idea what I am doing or what that position requires”, and the big one, “What if I fail?” “Confidence In Leadership” addresses these and many other concerns in showing students how to be confident in themselves, their abilities, and the things they want to accomplish.
Confidence is considered to be the number one trait that people look for in a mate, seek in a potential employee, or want when things get tough. Equipping your students with a path towards greater confidence will help them in all aspects of their academic career and their life beyond your school!
What are some of the causes of conflict on your campus? Differing opinions? Drama in campus organizations? “He said, she said, they said?” Poor communication? More?
“Playing Well with Others: Dealing with Conflict, Drama, and Bullies” is one of the most popular programs being presented on college campuses today. Dave Kelly, America’s Student Leadership Trainersm, draws on his experiences as a student leader, organization advisor, business owner, and “survivor of bullies” to show students how to work better together in campus organizations, handle drama and conflict in interpersonal relationships, and have confidence in one’s own abilities and unique qualities.
This program will show your students:
- How to find the usual and unusual things they have in common with others on campus
- Ways of managing conflict within organizations
- How to become a better listener and interpersonal communicator
- That drama can be managed, dealt with, and turned around in a positive way
- Bullies come in all shapes and sizes and can be overcome
- The importance of defining and defending their personal and group values
“Playing Well with Others: Dealing with Conflict, Drama, and Bullies” is a highly interactive 90 minutes-3 hours that will get your students thinking in new ways and looking for opportunities to create “win-win” solutions to issues, challenges, and problems on campus and in their lives.
Would you like your students to develop their leadership skills and abilities?
Are you tired of putting on leadership programs that fail to meet your student’s needs? Or that they do not even show up for? With presenters who talk a good game, but leave behind only warm fuzzies?
America’s Student Leadership Trainersm Dave Kelly presents programs that have a lasting impact, providing tools your students can use immediately.
“Everyday Leadership” has become one of Dave’s most popular programs because it really is for everyone! Students who attend this session become more confident in their abilities, get more engaged on campus, and grow personally.
It also works great if a student is involved in a campus organization, holds a formal office or leadership role, or just wants to be a better student!
This 90-minute to three-hour program covers important skills such as:
- Creating a personal blueprint for success—for the student and/or campus organizations
- Overcoming distractions
- Establishing priorities
- Using time and resources efficiently and effectively
- Dealing with conflict
- Becoming a better communicator
- Pursuing excellence
- And more!
Here is what one happy campus administrator wrote about Dave as a presenter and “Everyday Leadership”:
“The session was very informative AND educational. Even as a dean I feel I have so much more to learn as a professional. Dave’s session had so much I can use in my journey. As well, his energy & passion are contagious. He is the perfect person for this job.”
Dr. Jacqueline Gibson, Associate Dean of Students, Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, 3/19/2011
Campus Organization Leadership Trainings (COLT)
“Our club and organization leaders seem to have no clue as to what they are doing.”
“Why can’t we get more students to join?”
“People come for one meeting and we never see them again.”
“We have so much drama in our organization!”
“We know students who would be great leaders, but how do we motivate them to step up?”
Dave hears these things, and more, all of the time, which is why he created a program that addresses these and other concerns of leaders of campus organizations called Campus Organization Leadership Trainingsm (COLTsm). This half- to full-day program has been presented at more than 50 different colleges and universities in the past couple of years and has led to great results on those campuses.
Dave is an expert on campus organizations. He was an SGA executive officer and a state SGA organization staff member, the most decorated advisor in the history of Circle K International, and a former state and international officer of several other organizations. In COLTsm I show your students how to:
- Recruit members effectively into their organizations and then keep them with membership retention and fun meeting techniques.
- Deal with the drama and conflict that can occur in campus groups through miscommunication, differing agendas, and conflicting values.
- Motivate members to get and stay involved.
- Create a blueprint for their year in office that leads to organizational success and member enjoyment.
- And more! Learn more by reading the COLT flyer
The flyer has a sample agenda that shows you what a full-day program might look like, but COLTsm can also be presented in a half-day format or be expanded to a full weekend retreat through adding team building, reflection, and interactive planning sessions. Two half-day (3-4 hours) formats are available:
COLT: Organization Success Pak - includes “Recruitment Techniques for Campus Organizations”, “Membership Retention/Fun & Exciting Meetings”, and “Playing Well With Others: Dealing with Conflict in Campus Organizations”. Also, optional additional topic: “Officer Transitions and Responsibilities”
COLT: Personal Leadership Development Pak - includes “Confidence In Leadership”, “Play to Win: A Game Plan for Success”, and “Making the Most of Your 24/7″. Also, optional additional topic: “Motivating Others”

Orientation Leaders Success Program
Your Orientation/First Year Experience Leaders need specialized training before they conduct their sessions for your new students. Orientation/First Year Experience programs are no longer a “one and done” session conducted on the first day a new student enters your campus. These programs have evolved into on-going and mentoring relationships between the new students and their leader. The Orientation Leaders Workshop will prepare your leaders by showing them how to interact and get to know new students, involve them in campus life, and make their educational experience a successful one. Your Orientation/First Year Experience Leaders will learn how to deal with difficult people, grow their own leadership abilities, and pursue excellence in this vital role. (3-4 hours)
This keynote charts the path of the presenter from a 7 year old boy wanting to clean-up litter to an engaged student leader of thousands of committed students dedicated to community service to an adult recognized numerous times for his community service work, one who has personally performed more than 50,000 hours of community service and led college students to over 2 million hours of service to others.
“The Courage to Serve” works through real-life stories lived by the presenter to come to 5 key points for involving students in community service. Servant leadership through active service learning is a focus of many of Dave’s programs. Students consistently talk about how Dave has changed their life through his involvement and his commitment to involving as many college students as possible in service to others.

Further, in the spirit of Nelson Mandela’s quote, “You must work with an enemy, that way they become a partner.” Mike is open to assisting with organizing a community action with the two groups, i.e. clean a park, host a charity drive, etc. This not only creates new relationship parameters, it perpetuates the opportunity for dialogue. Fee includes Director’s travel expenses.
Difficult Dialogue Screenings conducted to-date have been incredibly powerful and participants have stated how special it is to be part of something that can promote change.
